The Experience

Seeing Mount Everest in real life and not on a screen is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity not to be missed. The same can be said about the journey to Base Camp, which is packed full of not just natural sights, but cultural encounters too. Suitable for healthy bodies with a good level of fitness, this 16-day adventure begins from the moment of landing in the bustling metropolis of Kathmandu.

Groupies are collected from the airport and taken to their hotel before an orientation meeting with the rest of the group. The first two days are spent familiarising the senses with Kathmandu, visiting the monkey temple, Pashupatinath Temple, Durbar Square and the Buddhist stupa of Boudhanath – all World Heritage-listed sites.

The next day, land in Lukla via a domestic flight and then move through to Phakding for the night. The next few days cover much ground as travellers ascend higher into the mountains, spotting the Namche Bazaar, taking in the soaring snowy views and even viewing a rumoured yeti skullcap at Khumjung. Day 10 sees groups move from the sandy area of Gorakshep to the main event – Everest Base – before beginning the descent back to Lukla over the next few days. A flight from there takes travellers back to Kathmandu where they spend an additional day chasing any last-minute sights. The following day Groupies are transferred back to the airport for departure.

While in Kathmandu, trekkers stay in a hotel and during the adventure they are put up in comfortable mountain lodgings and local tea houses. Along the way, adventurers are shown the ropes by an English-speaking guide and a group of helpful porters. All national park fees and permits are included so adventurers have peace of mind that they can get to their destinations without any worries.
