Explore spectacular Dunedin city and Otago Peninsula on this full-day small group tour (6 people max). Visit Baldwin St (steepest street in the world), the University of Otago and Dunedin’s famous Scottish heritage sites. Then we will travel alongside the picturesque Otago harbour and take a coffee break at the beautiful and historic Larnach Castle. We then head across to Sandfly Bay and take the track down to the viewing platform to spot local wildlife. We then drive through typically rugged and beautiful Otago wilderness to Hoopers Inlet swamp to observe the unique birdlife. We then drive to Tairoa Head to visit the penguin colony at Pilot Beach and the albatross sanctuary.

Otago Peninsula stretches along the southern edge of the Otago harbour. Taiaroa Head is at the end of the peninsula, only 32 kms from the city centre and within sight of the cityscape, We will visit -

- Sandfly Bay - a phenomenal experience. New Zealand fur seals and sea lions are found resting on the beach. Yellow-eyed penguins have a large colony here also - they are frequently seen arriving from sea in the evening. The track to the viewing platform starts at the carpark and it is worthwile to take a moment to see the amazing views of the bay from the track down to the platform.

- Hoopers Inlet - on Otago Peninsula is one of the best places in Otago to watch the Aurora Australis but just as pretty during the day. It is known for its diverse bird life.

- Pilot beach - a small cove on the western side of Tairoa Head and home to the largest Blue Penguin colony on the peninsula. You may also see Yellow Eyed Penguins, seals sea lions also.

- Royal Albatross Centre - home to the only mainland breeding colony of albatross in the world. The nearby observatory provides the opportunity to view parents returning from sea to feed their chicks (optional - entrance fees apply)
